This is an easy cake that anyone can do! All it takes is some chocolate frosting and a toy. Yes, it's true I got lazy and just plopped my son's Chuck on top of the cake - this cake was for my twin's' 2nd birthdays last year. I just didn't have time to make a whole truck from fondant but they loved the show so I still wanted the character. When you add a few easy fondant touches, the cake will still end up looking great, even with less work!
It's easy to get the "mud" look by smoothing the top first, then smooth the sides all around last. I just let the excess frosting pile up the sides to make a muddy border. So easy, and with the dark chocolate - truly mud looking (but not tasting! This is a yummy chocolate buttercream on top of my favorite chocolate cake, yum!).
A few "mud spots" on the fondant traffic signs & names and voila!, a perfect place for Chuck the Truck to live. :-) I will say my favorite part was the saying, "CAUTION we are 2". As you can see in the pictures the saying is pretty accurate! Haha, even fighting on their birthday. ;-)
Emi's Cakes
Cakes and Beyond
Welcome! I'm posting on this page all the cakes & desserts that I've created. All of my cakes are homemade, covered in homemade buttercream frosting, and decorated with homemade marshmallow fondant, almond and chocolate flavored (This is fondant that you will actually want to eat). I have several cake flavors and am always looking for new flavors to try. Quality is the most important thing to me in my cakes - I won't make something that tastes bad just to look good and neither will I make something that tastes good but is boring.

Portrait Baby Shower Cake
With a little bit of fondant work you can make a cake look cute, professional and "grown up" for a baby shower. Certainly everyone knows it's a baby shower, but really it's for the mom-to-be and that was the inspiration that I had for this cake.
My only instructions were that the shower was going to be in primary colors, so I enjoyed the flexibility to create. I had seen a fondant portrait and knew that I wanted to do it for this cake. It's such an easy and fun way to let the mom know that this is her day to celebrate her pregnancy and the baby to come. :-)
Oo! And though there's not a picture of it, the flavor of the cake was sweet potato! I love that flavor, especially in cupcake form. Enjoy the pictures and comment with any how to questions- I'm always happy to give tips on putting cakes together!
